It’s Pimm’s O’Clock!

Hello darlings!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you’ve seen that my surroundings changed these past few days. I switched Haussmann for the beach and sun!

I flew to the south of France via England and enjoyed an absolutely gorgeous day there. One of the best times to visit the home of Kate Middleton is when the weather begins to warm up, allowing for evening drinks on pub terraces and jumper-less outings. Summer in the UK means a few things: the return of shorts and summer dresses, outdoor tanning, barbecues, music festivals, Wimbledon, and, of course, Pimm’s.

Pimm’s, the UK’s favorite summer drink, is delicious. Along with champagne, it is the staple drink at Wimbledon, the Henley Royal Regatta, and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, as well as a fixture at polo matches. The gin and fruit-based cocktail drink is a true English tradition.

If you have the pleasure of visiting England this summer, make sure to enjoy a glass (or pitcher) of Pimm’s!

Cheers!

Gustav Klimt and The Kiss

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt is my absolute favorite painting in the world.

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt Der Kuss Le Baiser Klimt Belvedere Museum Vienna Austria Vienne Autriche Wien Osterreich

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt

How and why do I love it so much? Let me count the ways.*

1. The colors – Look at all of that gold! Painted during Klimt’s “Golden Period,” the beautiful sparks of gold on the painting call out to the viewer, luring you further into the painting and the kiss.

2. The subject matter – Love!

3. The expression – Complete, utter happiness. There is nowhere else in the world that she’d rather be than in his arms.

4. The embrace – The world’s most tender two-dimensional hug

5. The kiss itself – The sweetness of the kiss is what I think I love the most.  It’s a simple kiss on the cheek, and yet there is an incredible amount of love, passion, and happiness that is represented in this simple act.

One of the most thoughtful housewarming gifts that I’ve received was a printed canvas of The Kiss from my favorite Englishman. As I opened the package and saw the beautiful kiss and enraptured look of the lovers, I couldn’t help but sigh and stare. I have The Kiss in my apartment!

What better way to start off the day than with champagne and Klimt?

You can view “The Kiss” in person at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna.

United Buddy Bears in Paris!

Buddy Bear Exhibition ~ Champ de Mars (Eiffel Tower)

If you haven’t been able to make it to Berlin, you can come see the famous United Buddy Bears in Paris!  Last Thursday on the Toussaint holiday (loved that surprise day off!), a lovely German friend of mine and I went over to Trocadero to see these gorgeous works of art.

Lined up along the Champs de Mars, the Buddy Bears add some most welcome accents of colors to the City of Lights. Each bear represents a different country, and the local artists came up with some brilliant ideas to showcase their country.  All of the bears are visually stunning; some even went beyond the canvas and added unique accents.

The idea behind the bears is of peace.  The United Buddy Bear website explains, “Under this motto, the UNITED BUDDY BEARS promote living together in peace and harmony on their global tour. Around 140 Buddy Bears (each 2 m tall) represent as many countries recognised by the United Nations.”
