I am just now starting to discover some of the gems that northern Paris has to offer. The latest find is the industrial Café Lomi in the 18th arrondissement. As you walk through the door, you feel like you’ve left the French capital and have been transported to a trendy Brooklyn loft.
Both the vibe and decor are industrial. There’s brick along the walls, exposed pipes, dark woods, and metal bar stools. What I loved most was the corner with the Victorian-style leather canapé with a hipster vintage trunk that doubles as a coffee table; that gets me every time. It oozes a combination of old-time class and masculinity, though I can’t quite pinpoint why.
In preparation for our June 18 & 19 Cocktails & Conversations concerts with Sinfonietta Paris at the Institut finlandais, Lauren, Michael, and I decided to branch out from our normal haunts and host our a morning meeting at Café Lomi. The particular coffee blend they had that day was a bit too strong for me. I even put sugar on it (I take my coffee black), and that didn’t help. But L and M raved about their lattes, so I’ll be back to try another! In the sugar department, the cakes were fantastic. The space is so cool; hipsters and bobos, this has your name all over it.
Bon weekend !
