Le Dépanneur | A Slice of Southern California in Pigalle

The team behind Cantine California has struck gold again.

Le Dépanneur, their sit-down restaurant in the Pigalle neighborhood of Paris, is a slice of Southern Californian paradise, complete with little cactus plants and wooden patio furniture.  In true American style, the mains on the menu are burgers and tacos. It was a tough decision, but eventually Gemma and I went for the burgers. She chose the vegetarian, and I ordered the Obama. I laughed when I saw it on the menu. It seems to be a trend here to name a dish after the president; Breakfast in America has an (extraordinary) Obama milkshake.

The Obama was phenomenal! It came with gouda, red onions, tomatoes, lettuce, a smattering of chipotle, and guacamole. In an attempt to diminish my illogical aversion to avocado, I ordered the burger, because who can resist gouda and chipotle? Luckily, the gouda hid the avocado, so the burger was thoroughly enjoyed. By that, I mean that it was devoured in record time.  We finished up strong with their decadent cheesecake and mango crumble cake. Quelles gourmandes !

What to order: their champagne-based French Love cocktail

The evening at Le Dépanneur was a great night out. I’m going to miss La muséophile when she leaves us for Oz! Thinking of starting a social media movement: #keepGemmainParis. Who’s with me?
