I now understand why everyone vacations in the South of France.
It’s stunning. The weather is gorgeous, the people are tan, and the views are incredible. Earlier this summer, DM and I stayed at the Hotel Les Flots Bleus on the Plage de Saint Clair. I had no idea what to expect before we arrived, but boy, was I happy when we pulled up! It is beautiful and situated just in front of the beach.
The staff were so friendly. I ended up chatting for about an hour with the lovely manager Evangelina and learned so much about her story and the hotel. Originally from Portugal, she began working in the hotel business as a maid when she arrived in France and spoke no French. She learned the language and worked her way up the ranks to become manager of the hotel. I love hearing success stories like hers!
The hotel itself was built in the 1930s and was originally a family home. (Can you imagine living in a place like this?!) Eventually, they added on the restaurant and bar, then it was redone in 2000 to include the terrace and parking lot. I told Evangelina that the hotel felt so homey, and I learned that I’m not alone in feeling that. There are families who see the hotel as their vacation home and have gone back every year for forty years.
When I asked what she thought brought the guests back year after year, she said she believed it to be a combination of a few elements: the beach, the weather, the terrace, and the familial aspect of the hotel. It’s a very laid-back atmosphere, where people can truly relax and enjoy time with their loved ones, and they’ve never tipped off the paparazzi when a well-known personality comes to stay. I certainly agree that there is a je ne sais quoi about the hotel, in addition to its beauty and prime location.
The conversation with Evangelina was fun and enlightening, and our stay at Les Flots Bleus was fantastic. I couldn’t have been happier. Looking forward to our next visit already!
