“Where shall we go for dinner?”
What a tough question! There are so many amazing restaurants to choose from! Tons of places are hip, specialized, renowned, or just plain good. How do you choose just one??
You could definitely read reviews. But sometimes, you stumble upon something and just have to trust your gut. If it looks good, and there are people eating there, it’s probably all right.
A Saturday evening walk through the Marais led us to the restaurant Robert et Louise. It’s in a prime location in the 3rd and absolutely adorable on the outside. With its checkered curtains and dark wooden frame, the steakhouse looks cozy and inviting.
We walked inside to see if they had any spots left for dinner, and my goodness, did it smell good! I loved the big wooden beams, but the magical touch was the open wood-burning fire where they cook the meat. What you get is this incredibly juicy steak that doesn’t need a sauce – it is that good.
Seated downstairs, we enjoyed saucisse fraîche (fresh sausage) as an appetizer, followed by their signature cote de beauf (rib steak) for 2. Like I said, the meat was amazing. To-die-for juicy and savory, each bite was a display of a perfected grilling technique.
The steak came with their pommes sautées maison (house potato side dish) and a light, fresh salad. The ensemble of the meal was paired with a half-bottle of Côtes du Rhône, which was the perfect amount of vino for the Englishman and my light-weight self.
More than satisfied, we (sadly) skipped on dessert and just ordered our coffees instead. We had such a lovely evening at Robert et Louise. I can’t wait to go back. This time, I will get dessert!
